Google analytics is a very important tool for your website, where you can keep a check on the traffic (visitors), demographic, and classification of the visitors in various ways. It will also inform you about which post is performing and which one needs changes.
This step by step guide will teach you how to setup Google analytics for a blog
Mandatory Step: You should be having a blog, a google/gmail ID.
Step 1: Type – https://www.google.com/analytics/ in your web browser.
Step 2: Click Sign In
Click Google Analytics
Enter your Google credentials
Step 3: For first time user, click Sign Up.
Step 4: Fill in the details, like your website name, web address . .
Once you’re done with filling the details, Click Get Tracking ID
It will prompt you to accept the terms and condition, set your preferred country and click I accept.
Step 5: This is your dashboard, where on welcome (first time) you are seeing this tracking code, you need to copy this tracking code and paste it in your website.
Step 6: Copy the tracking code
Step 7: Open your Wp-Admin area (back end) of your blog/website and go to Appearance>Editor
If you are unable to find this on your wordpress backend use the direct link – http://YOURSITE.com/wp-admin/theme-editor.php
All you need to do is replace – YOURSITE to your actual site name, eg: howtostartblogging
Step 8: On the left side – Select Theme header and click to open it.
Step 9: Paste the entire code withing the <HEAD> tag .
Make sure that you are pasting the code under the <head> tag. If you don’t find this tag then create one.
Eg. <head>PASTE YOUR CODE HERE </head>
Step 10: Update the header file and you can start with your analytics account then.
